Functionality of the new blog-site

Call me a nerd, but I’m just as excited about the functionality of this new blog-site as I am about the look of it. Unless you’re a nerd like me, you might totally overlook some of the coolest features, so let’s talk about a few of them just to make sure you’re comfortable using them.

Categories –>categories clip

Categories will be very helpful when searching for posts and images about a certain type of photography in particular. Let’s say you’re a high school senior looking to see what we’ve done with other seniors… The last thing they want to see would be lots of pictures of babies and weddings, right? We’re thinking “categories” will basically replace our need for portfolio galleries of each area (i.e. newborns, weddings, proposals, engagements, seniors, families, etc.). We used to have a separate portfolio of each of those subjects and it was really time-consuming to keep up-to-date, so it often wasn’t.

Avatars in Comments

<– This is probably more of a “fun” feature, but it’s helpful to see a little picture (“avatar”) of the commenter so we can immediately recognize who is commenting. If you don’t see a picture next to your name, you can create one really easily (took me about 30 seconds) at Gravatar.com. so next time you comment, you’ll see your mug next to your comment!

Easy to Re-Tweet and Share in Facebok –>sharethis

This is probably the function I’m most excited about, to be honest. Now, when we post a sneak preview of pictures, it’s easier than ever to share them with friends! Twitter and Facebook are no-brainers, but there’s a little “Share This” option next to the other two icons, and that brings up a hundred other options for sharing if you’re not into Twitter or Facebook.

View Recent Tweets

twitterfeed<– This one is really easy to overlook. Way up in the top left corner of our web page, you’ll see “Twitter Feed” written vertically down the left side of the page. Move your mouse over it and out will slide our most recent 5 tweets, along with other helpful Twitter-related links. Very fun in a nerdy kinda way. =)

Older Posts Link –>clipping

This was one of the crazy limitations of our last blog… at the bottom of the page, we weren’t able to put a link to click to see “older posts.”

I think all of the other features are pretty self-explanatory or basic, but if I overlooked something please let us know and we’ll edit the post to explain whatever it is and give you a little plug/credit for helping us out! We always appreciate that.

Well, thanks for stopping by and reading through my nerd post. Hopefully it will help some of these newer features make sense and be used as you need them. I get so excited about features and technology, that if it weren’t for Holly, I’d probably post about it all the time and think that y’all like that kind of stuff, too. Was this helpful at all? Or was the site pretty self-explanatory? Do you like new features and technology as much as I do? =) We’d love to hear about it.
