One of the many projects we're working on during our slow season is setting up a new blog. We've been with Blogger since January of 2006 and blogs have changed so much since then! =) We had pretty much customized it as much as we could and were running into time-consuming issues, so we're excited to be making a change that should make blogging a bit less of a chore. =)

We're working on a bit of an update to our (old) logo as well! When Holly had our current logo designed more than 10 years ago, our business was really centered around children's portraiture. Since then, we've really expanded into so many other areas, that we felt it was time for an update to reflect a bit more simple, elegant and classic style than our old logo was reflecting.

What do you think?! We got some feedback from our Twitter and Facebook friends already and thought it was time to mention it on the blog. (We do float ideas on Twitter and Facebook sooner than the blog, so if you like being in the know on all of these kinds of things, definitely look us up - we'd love to catch up with you there!)

Stay tuned for the changes! I haven't heard an estimate of time yet from the designers, but I understand it's a fairly quick process... So I hope to have it up within the next week or so!

No, we're not being PC, so before someone goes all "merry CHRISTMAS!!" on us, I'll be the first to wish you a very Merry Christmas, too. It just may be a few weeks before we post again with family vacationing and all, and I wanted to cover New Year's as well. =)

Seriously, we love the holidays and take vacationing quite seriously this time of the year. Family time is a priority as it is for most of our customers, so if we're hard to reach this next week or two, that's probably why. Well, that plus we were cruising Tropical climes last week, and Holly bought me a Wii for my birthday.

So we're back from our first-ever family cruise with Holly's family down to the Caribbean. Not sure we'll ever try to sail out of Galveston again (we got fogged in, delaying the cruise 2 days) but the cruise was fun and we had a lot of great family time together.

Here's our most recent attempt at a family portrait - timer-mode style! I took a few of the group without me, then set up the camera and ran in for this one. Not too bad, eh? It was really windy and mostly cloudy, so most of us skipped the beach and dove the reef instead right after we took this shot.

The water was SO transparent, it was amazing... Visibility underwater wasn't as good as it could have been due to the wind and waves, but we still got to see lots of great reef life, including a deadly lionfish.

Well, I have a few more things to wrap up before I can really relax for Christmas, so it's time to wrap this blog post up and break out the French press for some freshly ground coffee.

Hey, folks! It was a great Thanksgiving at the Sangree house... Family is a top priority for us, so we took off work to spend four days with Holly's family, just relaxing, eating and making memories - not in that order. Probably the highlight was the Thanksgiving morning flag football game that I'm still picking scabs from. =) Okay, that was probably way too much information there... Sorry folks.

Hope you all had a meaningful and enjoyable time as well. We're slammed trying to get everyone's editing and holiday cards ready in time for the holidays, so blogging will probably not be as often as usual. Just wanted to let y'all know we're still alive and kicking. =)

If there's anything we can help you with over the holidays, remember that all orders must be received by December 7th in order to have them back by Christmas. Anything placed after the 7th will likely arrive in late December or early January.

P.S. Have you noticed our new Google Voice dialer on the right side of our blog? It's pretty cool! Sharon's Mother-Daughters Session

When Sharon called me to schedule a quick portrait session with her daughters, my heart when out to them. She and her girls were reunited to attend a family member's funeral and life's brevity was on their minds.

They were such a fun group to photograph! In the few minute we spent together, I could tell that they had shared more than a lifetime of laughs and it really was heartwarming to watch them interact with each other.

Five New Holiday Card Designs

We're really excited to offer five new designs for holiday cards this year! I hope these images make sense to you... I did my best to show the front of the card, the inside spread, and the back. All of these are folded, press-printed cards.

We'd love to hear what you think! They're really flexible, and can be used for Christmas, New Years... any of the winter holidays, just by changing a bit of text for you. Of course, we still have our all of our designs we've acquired over the years as well, so if you want to see more, feel free to check out the holiday card gallery here, and click on the thumbnails to zoom in.

Of course, if none of our designs tickle your fancy, we can always design a custom card for you. We have a great designer that does all of our custom design work, and we're confident she can create something you'll just love, and that will meet your special requirements.

Pricing For Holiday Cards This Year

If you know Holly and I, you know we like to be up-front with our pricing so you know what to expect! We have three options for cards this year, all in the larger 5x7 size, and all include envelopes...

Press-printed, folded cards are printed on heavy cover stock and are folded, either horizontally or vertically, based on the design of the cards. Prices start at $2.50 per card in quantity.

Flat cards are also press-printed, but instead of folding, they are just a single 5x7 piece of cover stock, printed on both sides. Prices start at 1.50 per card in quantity.

Photopaper cards are basically our cool card designs, but printed as a 5x7 photo for our customers on a tighter holiday card budget. Prices start at $1.25 in quantity.

Tori's Bridal Portraits :: A Few Favorites

Congratulations, Tori & Brandon, on a fun Las Vegas wedding at The Mirage on the Strip! Now that they're married, we can blog a few favorites from Tori's colorful bridal session at the OKC Museum of Art. It was our first visit there for portraits, and were we in for a treat!

The colors and lighting are AMAZING in the Chihuly exibit.

Quick tip for photographers who may want to shoot there... Don't put any weight on the exhibit platforms! Apparently, the previous photographer to shoot there had cracked several of the exhibits by having a bride sit and stand up on the platform next to the actual exhibits. Oops! The museum staff were on high alert when we arrived and I was glad to know what we could and couldn't do. I was actually quite amazed at how nice they were despite their previous photographer experience.

Apparently, they host a Thursday "Cocktails on the Skyline" up here during the warmer months of the year. I'm going to have to check that out next May when it reopens!

In other news, we're in the process of re-activating all of our sessions from this year to accommodate holiday card and gift print orders. Last date for ordering cards and gift prints is going to be sometime early in December, so now's the time to be making those plans!

These are the moments we're going to reminisce about, I know it already.

Holly took our princesses to the park before the real cold weather hits for some fun pictures, and to showcase Grammy's amazing sewing talents. (Can you believe Holly's mom sewed these dresses?!) Anyway, I missed the session due to the U2 concert last night, but was really delighted to see this storyboard that Holly worked on last night and couldn't resist sharing it with you.

Does it get any cuter than that?

Vegas Wedding!

Holiday Pictures, Cards, etc.

I'm about to hit the airport for our first wedding in Vegas (fun times!), but before I go, we wanted to remind everyone that the holidays are fast approaching.

Back from Traveling

Well, we're finally back from our weeks of being road warriors! Did you miss us? =) We missed you! Thought I'd share a few iPhone pictures from our travels and update you as to where we were!

I don't normally like to say too much when we're out of town, just playing it safe after the auto burglary we experienced last Easter. We have a great our alarm system and security, and live in a nice, safe neighborhood, but I still find myself playing it safe.... Or, as my good friend Fred always says, "Playing the percentages!"

It's funny how varied people in their comfort about sharing personal info, pictures, etc. online. When we first started blogging, I had more than one person suggest I not ever put any personal photos of ourselves or our kids, and never use our real names, etc. Well, that's not very personable! Then, on the other hand, I've seen people blog about upcoming trips out of the country, and that they'll be leaving their home empty for weeks on end, and I have yet to hear of a break-in or burglary as a result. (Now, after writing this I may hear of several from you... I'm interested, so drop me a comment if you've heard of anything like that!)

So, we're back from our travels. Where did we go, you ask? Well it started out with Holly's brother's wedding up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, way up near Canada. We drove, visiting friends and shooting portraits along the way up and back, logging about 20 hours driving and 2,344 miles in our trusty Eddie Bauer Ford Exploder (sic).

Holly got onto me for taking pictures while driving. So I quit after this one.

We were back for literally 3 days before leaving for a wedding in Greenville, SC. Being that close to the ocean, we just couldn't resist visiting the beach. I'm an island boy, and still find myself irresistibly drawn to the ocean, beach, boats, etc., despite living a thousand miles from any good beaches. =) So, we hit Myrtle Beach, meeting all of my immediate family there for a few days at the Island Vista Resort and was it ever beautiful and relaxing!

Greenville, SC is really a cool town. It has a downtown that reminds me of Santa Barbara the way it's laid out so well for walking between all of the very cool shops and restaurants. My good friend Tim Grubb was getting married, and friends from all over arrived early to reconnect and hang out for a few days. Holly and I left our girls with my parents, to the delight of the girls, the grandparents and ourselves, so we felt like newlyweds again, able to walk around holding each others' hands and not the kiddos'. I was actually in this wedding, so I didn't shoot much, though we were able to capture some getting ready images for Tim since the main photographer couldn't be there. Then, back home via friends in the beautiful mountains of NC for a portrait session. We logged another 2,815 miles and at least 20 movies (thank God for the DVD player for the girls! =)

Ten days at home, and we were off again, this time to Florida for some portraits and relaxation with friends! Have you ever heard the quote, "A vacation is where you see what rain looks like on other places" ? Well, we were afraid that' what was going to happen in Florida. The 10 day forecast was for Thunderstorms every day. Thankfully, the weather there is crazy and the storms blew by us most days.

Here are a few iPhone pictures I took in Florida that relax me just to look at them again.

The girls did really well on all the trips, actually. They sleep well in the car, so that helps a lot. My headphones help a lot at other times, if you know what I mean. Seriously, I think I listened to about 100 podcasts, and 4 or 5 complete audiobooks!

Travis & Euna's Wedding -- Preview

Just a sneak preview of my favorites from Travis & Euna's wedding last weekend! Travis and Euna were awesome to work with... so easygoing, and really able to relax and trust in the wedding professionals they had on board to insure the day went smoothly.

Two pairs of shoes... pretty shoes for the ceremony and head-turning shoes for the reception. =)

The flowers were awesome! This is probably a good time to mention that Rebecca's Silver Rose hooked Euna up with the greatest flowers ever! (More to come.)

We loved this sequence of shots at the moment they first saw each other for the day.

It's unconventional, but it can really take some pressure and stress out of the day. They were able to take 10 minutes to talk together in private and get lots of the wedding party and family pictures out of the way. By doing that, after the ceremony we were able to get some great images of just the two of them together and then head to the reception before the guests even started eating.

It's never a prerequisite of ours for couples to see each other before the ceremony, but it's nice when it all works out nicely and allows plenty of time for pictures without keeping the guests waiting.

The cake was the handiwork of Johnnie's Sweet Creations, and the gorgeous reception hall is the Molly Shi Boren Ballroom in Memorial Union at OU.

In case anyone's wondering where the guests are... I got into the reception area early and shot it before the guests were around. =) Makes for better pictures of the reception decor.

Euna's Mom and Dad cutting a rug out on the dance floor...

I thought the DJ - DJProOklahoma.com - did a really good job... Besides choosing a good selection of tunes, his lights made for some great reception dancing images.

Special credit to Lindsay Gibson of Gibson Events for pulling everything and everyone together and insuring the day went off without any noticeable problems!

Just a Quick Favorite

A Whirlwind Tour of Chicago and the Yoopie

Yes, you read that correctly, we were all the way up in Yooper country last weekend to shoot Mathew & Joyanne's wedding in Escanaba, MI. It's way up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, between Lakes Superior and Michigan, where there's not much need for air conditioning and tennis rackets can double as mosquito swatters, or so I hear. In our experience it was beautiful and I didn't even see a mosquito. We may have heard one in the distance, but it could have been a chainsaw.

Anyway, it's good to be back where we can get Dr. Pepper in restaurants again! =) As always, we have a lot to catch up on, but I thought we'd share a few favorites from sessions we did while we were up North. We were able to meet up with several families in Chicago to do portraits, and we're thinking that we need to start offering these kinds of traveling sessions more often! It's a great way for us to visit fun places and get to see old friends while we're helping them update their family portraits. Next stop, Myrtle Beach. Anyone needing portraits out that way? =)

First, a few from Matthew & Joyanne's wedding:

I love these two images from after the ceremony and before the reception. We carved out just enough time to swing by the beach and take advantage of the nice light.

And a few from the family sessions we did in Chicago:

We did this lifestyle session for Sam & Jessica at their home in the Chicago suburbs. We don't often do lifestyle sessions, due to the time and costs involved, but we had such a good time I think we'll start doing more of these. These photos will be particularly meaningful to Sam & Jess because they're moving soon and they really wanted images to capture the fun times they had in this, their first home together. And what a cute home!

A favorite from Angela & Gregg's mini-session at their home in the 'burbs as well. Can you believe this is just outside of Chicago? What an amazing front yard!

Then we had the good fortune of meeting up with Nathan & Rebecca and their very sweet girls. If our girls turn out anything like theirs, I will be thrilled! =)

There were just so many awesome places to do photos, I can't wait to get back up there and take advantage of them again. Seriously, we've done photos this year in N. Carolina, Chicago, Michigan, Texas and soon S. Carolina and Florida; so consider us available to travel to whatever beautiful location you might have in mind! We can be bribed with an extra day or two of vacation, especially if you're thinking Bahamas or Mexico. =)

Okay, time to find that grindstone and plant my nose firmly against it to catch up from the out-of-office time. Thanks for checking in for the latest news and images. And don't forget to leave us a comment... you'll make our day!

Brandi's Trash the Dress Session

Tonight was a first for us... We got to shoot a bride, after the wedding, who wanted to sacrifice her dress for some fun and unique pictures! It's been called "trashing the dress," but we didn't really trash the dress all that much. It was kinda black and dirty in several places, but we didn't purposely wreck it. It's still cleanable and preservable... I think! =)

Thanks for being our first victim, er, subject for a post-wedding bridal session, Brandi! You were a superb model and Devin was (for the most part) a willing accessory-slash-accomplice. Have I mentioned how great you two look together?!

So, my idea was to just blog one or two, but I couldn't narrow down fewer than eight favorites! Hope y'all don't mind a big ol' sneak preview!

We'd love to hear what you think, since this is our first "trash the dress" kinda session!

Now it's off to check the pool before going to bed... Last night we had kids toss all of our pool furniture and garbage cans in. That wasn't very nice and I'd love to catch them red-handed with my 6-cell mag-light in hand. =) Yeah, you can call me Paul Blart... If I had a Segway, I'd totally be riding one right now, just for the stealth of it. =)

Emily's Senior Pictures :: A Sneak Preview

Last night was kick-off for our Fall senior season, beginning with Emily! Seniors are so much fun to photograph and hang with... Each one is so unique and facing a huge, opportunity-filled world ahead of them. It's really an honor to be able to capture who they are at this stage in life.

Josh & Lindsey's Wedding :: A Sneak Preview

For what may be the first time ever, we're caught up and able to actually give a sneak preview immediately after a wedding! Let's consider this our new standard for weddings going forward. =)

Saturday, we all expected storms, but it turned out to be the most beautiful, pleasant day! Here are several of our favorites from the day... Hope you enjoy them!

Something about the following image really pulls me in... It was just before the ceremony and Lindsey's hands were almost speaking of her eagerness to get the ceremony going! =)

Church ladies everywhere will hate us for this shot! This was not my idea, I promise. And I refrained from blogging the "Pew Surfing" shot they wanted. =)

This shirt cracked me up. First thing at the reception, this guy peels off his dress shirt to reveal this nugget of wisdom and encouragement. =)

After the wedding, Josh & Lindsey were cool enough to let me capture a few outside images with them. The ceremony and reception went really quickly, so they wanted to maximize that time with guests. It worked out just perfectly!

Congratulations, Josh & Lindsey! It was a pleasure and honor to be your wedding photographer! Have a great time in Hawaii... One of these days I'll get out there myself. I think Myrtle Beach, SC, and Playa del Carmen are next on the list. I love the beach!!

Brandi & Devin's Wedding :: A Preview

We're literally running out the door to a family reunion, but this is way overdue, so I thought I'd share a few faves from Devin & Brandi's wedding day before we go. Congratulations again, Brandi & Devin! It was a fun day and I hope the images we captured for you bring back some amazing memories for you for the rest of your lives!

About halfway through the reception, the light outside was just amazing, so I stole the bride and groom for a few minutes to brave the heat and create some awesome images for them.

This was the one traffic light in the town and I couldn't help using it. =)

The Reception Hal was a really old drug store and hardware building. Seriously amazing clouds, eh? They were beautiful! The key to awesome photography in this case was just the awesome lighting and colors that were there already. No photoshop necessary! =)

Megan & Justin's Wedding

We're in the final stages of editing Megan & Justin's wedding... running a few resizing actions to get the images ready to load in our super-cool online gallery!

While we're waiting for all of that to finish up and upload, we have a few minutes to pull together a blog of our favorites. =)

My heartfelt thanks to Christ's Church of Yukon for having a really sweet ready-room for the bridesmaids. The Groomsmen had the old beat-up youth group couches, but the ladies were dressing in style! I loved the light and decor in the room...

It didn't take but a few minutes to realize how loved Justin & Megan are... I don't think I've ever seen so many good hugs at a wedding before! It's rewarding to catch those moments... like the one below, but there were so many moments like this, that I had scores to select from!

Megan's mom turned a possible flower tragedy into a triumph... they looked great and nobody could have known the hurdles she conquered to have them there and looking so pretty!

We created a really sweet custom guest book (pictured below with the rings on the cover) for the guests to sign, rather than one of those plain white-lined paper guest books. I need to get with Justin & Megan again now that it's been signed and get some good pictures to show you. We were so busy when it arrived, that I didn't think to get some good pictures of it to show on the blog! Argh...

I love this image of Megan having a quiet moment before the ceremony...

Megan had a little picture of her Dad framed and attached to her bouquet. It was a great idea and way to remember her Father who had passed away. Isn't the bouquet gorgeous?!

The formals got a little out of hand...

The bride and groom rode in the coolest little British taxicab from the ceremony to the reception. I later heard that it doesn't have air conditioning, so it was a bit warm, but made for some fun pictures and great memories, I'm sure.

The first dance...

Justin and his Mom having too much fun on the dance floor. I forget the song they were singing to, but Justin was really belting it out and I was delighted to have captured it.

The reception was at the Will Rogers Theatre, which has been newly renovated and is looking fantastic!

Just a short note to wish you a very happy and meaningful Independence Day! Having personally lived in 4 countries around the world and visited many more, I am SO grateful to be a citizen of the United States of America!

We got some really fun pictures of our girls with sparklers and we'll try to post them soon. In the mean time, here are a couple of favorites from a session we finished editing today.

Besides the flower girl, I had some tough competition with this little guy, too. I love how serious he is! First a landscape shot...

Seriously? June is here and almost gone already? Wow... On one hand, it's gone so quickly that it's hard to believe, yet on the other hand we're slammed and behind like we always are at the end of June so I can't help but believe it!

This is a special "Thank you!" to our brides and customers waiting for pictures so patiently! We are working as fast as we can to catch up and we should be caught up completely in another couple of weeks. Yesterday was a great day and we got SO much done!! If I could just have 5 of those days in a row, I think we'd be all caught up!
